Early 99 aftermarket modifications

Hi everyone, I have an early 1999 f250 7.3l and I'm looking to upgrade some things on it, but I'm not sure where to start. I would love to make the turbo louder if there are any cheap ways to do that. Are there any recommended mods for around $200? Everything is stock.

Change out the stock trans cooler for a 6.0 cooler to protect the tranny. Walker BTM to help lower EGT'S. Swap out headlights for newer model they will be much brighter if you still have the stock ones. Look at my sig below for some other ideals.

Cold air intake would be my first mod. 6637 Donaldson from Riffraff is popular and inexpensive. Gauges to monitor trans temp and egt's is a must as well. Upgrade your turbo compressor wheel with the WW2 or the Riffraff billet wheel. Will help with daily driving and towing and will eliminate the stock turbo surge. You could upgrade your exhaust to a 4 or 5 inch. And, yes, if you're towing at all upgrade your transmission cooler to the 6.0 or Mishimoto cooler.

The exhaust and compressor wheel will give you the turbo sound you're looking for.

2000 7.3 PSD 4x4 Auto Trans., CC, short box 207,500 miles.

I see on one of your earlier posts you have 250,000 miles on your 7.3L, do you know if it has the original tranny or if not, how many miles on it. If it has a lot of miles you might consider the 4R100 flush procedure by Mark Kovalski with Mobil 1 A/T fluid first before installing the 6.0 or Mishimoto cooler. That’s what I did- then you will see if you have good flow and that your by-pass valve Is OK— had to rebuild mine, transmissing was spewing fluid out of fitting on Transmission with the return line removed. Someone should have a copy of that procedure on TDS.

I would avoid a 5 inch exhaust, they are overkill/cost more/harder to fit. For towing a 3 1/2 in downpipe to 4 in is best and will be all you need unless you are over 500 hp. Avoid the bigger is better hype. The stock early 99 air box is a true COLD AIR intake because it takes cold air from the driver side wheel well. Most all of the aftermarket Cold Air intakes take air for under the hood not really cold air. I ran a homemade Donaldson intake for years on my last truck (filter/ piece of 4 in exhaust/2 hose clamps) and it worked fine. You will hear the turbo a bit more with it and dirt cheap. The best air filter would be a AIS. Are you really sure you want to hear that turbo whining constantly for a 4 hr road trip?
