Quiet 4" exhaust

Does anyone have a suggestion for a quieter 4" exhaust? I have a 4" turbo back exhaust on my '99 F250. It came with a straight through muffler years ago. The noise was more than I wanted. I installed a IMCO (?) 4" baffled "performance" aftermarket muffler. It was quieter but still noisy. I am thinking about installing a Dodge stock muffler. It is 4" inlet/outlet. Anyone done this? Should I see any noticeable power loss?

Part of this experiment is to find a quiet setup for my Excursion. I want a 4" system on that truck too but it has to be quiet.

Look at a banks muffler. They are pretty quiet.

Maybe add a aero turbine in as well

Any quiet mufflers out there? I am looking for something "stock" quiet. It would still need to be 4inch and not offset. Thanks

I would go with a 40 or 51" donaldson

I have a magnaflow with 3.5dp. I don't know if they make it anymore. But, I was all about quiet when I was searching years ago and I am pleased.

2002 F-250, PSD 6-speed, CC, short bed, 4X4, Toreador Red w/ Silver accent, A.R.E mx cap, Weld Super Single II and 33s in the summer, x-springs, F-350 blocks and badges, AIC, proflaps, ITP intank mod, AirDog with 3 micron filter, isspro guages and TTM, scangauge, husky liners, alarm, xm stereo,stull 5399-p grille, centramatics, ccv mod, AIS Air Filter, Southbend CON O, Detroit Truetrac LSD, coolant filter, 203 stat with billet housing, blackcloud intake heater plug/boost fitting, reese titan hitch, fabcraft PTO cover/temp sender port, prodigy brake controller, ITP Boost Annihalator, oilguard bypass filter, Mag-Hytec rear dif, bilsteins, hellwig rear stabilizer bar, ATS housing, non-ebpv pedistal and exhaust flange, magnaflow 3.5dp exhaust, ITP reg return, turbomaster wastegate controller, and ceramic coated bellowed up pipes, PHP 50t and 80p, currently 127,000 miles.

problem solved

I have just the trick.

When I installed the new Magnaflow 4" Exhaust on my 2000 E350 Van the drone sound so so bad inside from the turbo spool-up, so I installed 2" Thermo-Tec heat tape (header tape) from the turbo downpipe to the 5" polished tip including the round muffler and the interior sound level is so much more enjoyable. I even wrapped the two Up-Pipes.

On Amazon they have many 2" Heat Tape companies now, DPI is one, look at the ratings Stars to see what people like for the best price. Buy the Tan-Titanium color tape, this way if you get an exhaust leak it will make the tape black in the leak area.

Make sure you buy some extra Stainless straps (the snap-off type) for the job. I wrapped the downpipe first before the install leaving the end enough room to add tape when you connect to the next section under the truck. Be sure to soak the tape in warm water before the install, it makes it easy to wrap it tight and uniform. Wrap it using a 1/4" to 1/2" lap on the tape as you go. Also wear the black gloves so you don't get the small fiberglass splinters in your hands.

You will still get the great turbo whistle out the end of the pipe, but the interior drone and noise will be so much better. Best 100.00-200.00 dollars I spent on the van. Now the prices have dropped oin the heat tape it may only cost 100.00 for six 50 foot rolls.

You will tank me after you tape your exhaust system. I did my old dumptruck back in the 1980s with an aluminized exhaust and after 10 years I removed the tape and the pipes looked almost new, no rust. It kept the road salts from eating the pipes up north.

Also, wrap the muffler, round or oval and the CAT.

In the rear of my van I have an Aux transferflow fuel tank a 27 gal. that fits between the rear end and the spare tire and TF put a small corner notch in the top of the tank where the tailpipe meets the tank, it's kinda close so the heat tape is extra insurance to not heat the tank too much. I'm at 65 gallons topped off.

Wrap the system and save your money on a new exhaust.
