'2005 F350 Rear View Mirror, Etc.

On my 2005 F350, there is a cable and multi-pin connector going to the rear view mirror. There is a switch on the bottom front of the mirror and a green LED that sometimes comes on. I can find no description of this or what any of it does. Also, behind the mirror, is a box mounted to the windshield with a cable going to it. Both cables come together and go up into the roof above the mirror. I would also like to know the purpose of this box. I don't know if it is related to the mirror or not.

Thanks for any ideas,
Michael

Assuming your truck is equipped with factory options, I Would say that you are looking at the Electronic Day/Night Mirror which will have a switch and indicator. The box you mentioned, again assuming the truck is factory, is likely the Compass Sensor Module BUT I am having difficulty recalling if Ford had anything like that mounted to the windshield back in 2005... usually that module was inside of the overhead console in the same area. Until recent model year's anything mounted to the windshield would be aftermarket equipment like alarm system and remote start antennas for example. Without seeing it for myself I cannot be sure though. Got a picture? Annnnnd are you the original owner of the truck or did you buy it used?
