7.3L Won't start Super fast clicking sound

Started this morning Went to went to start it this afternoon, does nothing if you open the door and pull the key out of the ignition super fast clicking sound Any idea Ok batteries are Bosch 900 amp 1400 cca 2 years old at most I will swap my old batteries out with Some 1 year old batteries I also have a charger that will run a repair cycle before charging and if I can
Get the truck running I can test the alternator with the charger So I try this first before I swap

2002 F250 Super Duty Crew Cab 7.3L Lariat 2WD 131,000mi; 4in turbo back custom exhaust, Garrett GTP38R turbo, Riffraff intercooler boots, Dorman Up-Pipes, Ford Severe Duty AIS, 31 row 6.0 transmission cooler, Scangauge II, ISSPRO EV2 Boost-EGT-Trans temp Gauges, DP T-5 Tuner (stock ,60HP tow, Decel, 60HP highway econo, 80HP city econo), Dieselsite coolant filtration, Max Air A/C mod, foglight mod, AIH delete, LED interior, back up camera, hid foglights.

2 year old batteries aren't "new" or necessarily good.

Batteries only last about two years in these trucks, because it takes so much power to start them.

2001 F350 XLT 4X4 crew cab, dual rear wheels, long bed, black, 7.3l turbo diesel, automatic transmission, 4.10, shift on the fly, running boards, sliding rear window, 38 gal fuel tank, Odyssey extreme 65-PC1750T batteries, Michelin LTX-MS2 rear tires, Sumitomo Encounter front tires, Shell Rotella Ultra elc, 11,500 gvwr, 20,000 gcwr, 7500 gvw, completely stock, 114,000 miles when purchased, now has 240,000 miles, repairs so far: two starters, batteries, cps, brakes, tires, alternator, ball joints, locking hub, wheel hub, AC compressor, serpentine belt, power steering pump, driver's side window, ignition switch, o-ring, Spectra premium radiator, water pump, fan clutch, fan blades, thermostat, thermostat housing, tensioner. Stolen twice so far, but recovered both times with major damage.

2005 Nomad Rampage toyhauler made by Skyline. 11,500lb gvwr.

The starting power required has little to do with battery live. Heat is the big killer of batteries. Mine usually last 6 years or so, we seldom see temps over 70 degrees. It could be a diode in the alternator, it will not properly charge and will not trigger the ALT light. I have had this happen twice. I would check that once you get it running.

I think.both of you have valid points.

Heat is a killer but I think a frequent heavy draw on a lead acid starter battery also shortens battery life. Such as that from glow plugs and starter demands of a cold engine.

Proper battery and charging system maintenance by making sure all cable connections are bright & tight, cleaning posts, using felt washers, occasionally topping off with a goid charger, etc can all help to protect the batteries.

I have also read the common practice of trickle chargers is also a battery killer.

And, again, you guys are both right, 2-5 years is the typical life of a lead acid battery.

That's why I switched to Odyssey extreme 65-PC1750T batteries, because I was only getting two years per set of batteries. Hopefully, I will get at least six years with these.

I think that has to do with the evolution of trickle chargers. The old ones were simply low amperage chargers - nothing to stop them when the battery was fully charged so they would slowly cook a battery to death. The newer ones have sophisticated algorithms that control the charging - constantly monitoring the battery voltage and only applying current as necessary. I have the NOCO Genius chargers on both of my antiques. They have a very sophisticated charging system and I've got 10+ years on the batteries in those vehicles with no issues whatsoever.
