Keyless Remote Key Fob

My original Ford key fob broke where it attached to the key ring and all of them I find listed online are after-market and have many negative feedbacks of button failure within a few weeks of purchase.

I can't find the genuine Motorcraft on the Ford website.

Any suggestions? Any after-market brand you would recommend?

And lastly, I have another F250 that does not have the keyless remote system installed in the truck. Is it possible to fit a new one in ? I thought there was a recent thread on this very topic but I can't find it.

Thanks

Found Part Number on back of fob:

3B:F87B-15K601-AA Factory OEM KEY FOB Keyless Entry Remote Alarm

Found them used on Amazon for $10.

Most feedback I have read for after-market products has been of failure within weeks of purchase.
By using the P/N above, you can hopefully find the original OEM.

Still trying to determine if I can add a genuine Ford Motorcraft receiver to a 2002 that did not come with keyless remote from the factory.

Is it just a matter of "plug & play" into existing wiring or is there actually something in the PCM?

Thanks

i GOT ONE FROM REMORTES UNLIMITED TO REPLACE THE FOB ON MY fORD ADD ON ALARM/REMOTE START FROM 2006. I have had it for over a year and it works OK. I think they also offer shells to put your guts in.
Sorry for the caps but I don't feel like retyping it. This is mine: RemotesUnlimited.com

I am interested in details of your Ford Add-on Remote Start...is it a Motorcraft product?

Yes it was. I think it may have been made for Motorcraft by Code Alarm, but I cannot swear to it. it was a tough install because it is also a security system. I had to cut into the wiring in the driver's door as well as under the dash and under the door sill. I am used to working on boats though so all connections were soldered and heatshrink protected with the sealant inside. No problems with it in 12 years, so I must have doen it right. Hard part was figuring out the wiring, since the wiring harnesses changed in '05 II think). Overall it has been a great system.

Arrow Ordered and programmed these with no issues for our 2004 Excursion 6.0L XLT

We purchased a pair of replacement 3-button fob transmitters that go with the chipped key on our 2004 Excursion from vendor keyess2go on Amazon for less than $10 ("Keyless2Go Keyless Entry Car Key Fob Replacement for Vehicles That Use 3 Button CWTWB1U331").

You can also get the chipped key blanks via Amazon ("Keyless2Go New Uncut Replacement Transponder Ignition Car Key H72") for $8.95 each. You will have to get the metal key portion cut at a keyshop, locksmith, or a home center that cuts keys. We had it done at a big box home center ("HD") , paying for a "dumb key" blank cutting, but had employee use the blank chipped key instead.

The programming instructions for new keys and fobs are in your owners manual - these were for our 2004 Excursion:

Programming Chipped 2004 Excursion Key with 2 original keys

Can I program a third key myself if I have two working keys?
Yes, once you have had the new key cut by a Locksmith
or other qualified persons use the following instructions.

1. Insert an existing working key into the ignition cylinder.

2. Turn the ignition cylinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF.

3. Remove the existing working key and, within five seconds, insert a second working
key and turn it to ON (RUN) then back OFF.

4. Remove second working key and insert the new key before ten seconds have
elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN). Leave it on for one second and turn back to OFF.

5. The security light will light up for three seconds to indicate that the new
key has been successfully programmed.

Adding RKE to a non-RKE truck would entail replacing the VSM on an '02. On '99-'01 trucks that function is built into the GEM, and that would have to be swapped out as far as I know.

Thank you for this information. It gives me a starting point to research.

It looks like new VSMs are $200-$250 and they require a flash by Ford for maybe $100 more.

After that is complete then the only step is programming the 3-button fobs.

Does that sound right?

Thanks

Sounds like it would work to me. You might PM ford_doctor and see if he has some additional insight, since he's a Ford tech.

I’ve been watching the viper security system on eBay for awhile now for my gmc stepside. Has Remote start and comes with 1 lcd key rechargeable key fob and one regular one. I watched a video, it didn’t look to hard to instal and cost 300.

I’d consider it for my dually but it’s a standard and not a very fast truck. Doubt anyone could get far in it by the time I dailed 911 lol
