Dirt in fuel bowl

A little over 1,000 miles ago I did a fuel bowl rebuild and made sure everything was squeaky clean (but didnít install a new filter... yeah I know, dumb!). Today I went to change the filter and replace the check valve stand pipe and noticed some debris sitting on the bottom of the fuel bowl. Is this common? Should I be worried? Should I add an inline filter between tank and fuel bowl? Thanks in advance for any help!!!

My new to me 97 started stumbling under a load last month. The fuel pressure to the bowl was 25 to 30 psi and there was a great amount of crap in the bottom of the fuel bowl. Both fuel tanks were loaded with rust and the pickup screens were laying in the bottom of the tanks. Replaced the tanks, sending units and tank selector valve.
