Adding a see through in line fuel filter

Anybody added a supplemental add on see through filter under the hood to see the condition of the fuel? My thought is a $12 Wix in line filter to pre filter would let you know if your fuel is becoming contaminated.

Those are nice for small riding lawnmowers but I would prefer a Racor for anything larger.
