Making popcorn

hi all, have a 93 Ford f350 7.3l idi pre powerstroke diesel that is acting up. Couple of weeks ago was driving and noticed temp gauge rising so pulled over and found that the idler pulley was not there any more. I went the next day and replaced the idler and tensioner pulley along with a new belt. once I got it all back together it started making a popping sound when accelerating past 45 miles an hour. it does not do it when the truck is idling or in the first three gears only does it in 4th and 5th gear when you are over 45 mph. I replaced water pump and thermostat and fan clutch figuring that would take care of it but it didn't.a mechanic check the temperature of the radiator and it was 72 degrees on bottom and close to 203 degrees on the top of one side the other side was reading 10 to 25 degrees different the the first side. If the cooling system being that clogged could it be making the popping sound under load

It might be. The coolant expanding might be what you are hearing. It's hard to tell by staring at a screen.
