Towing Limits

New to the Forum and have searched but not found the info needed: I have a 1992 F350 Crew Cab Dually with a 7.3 IDI. I can find some info on towing limits but it's mostly stock info. I have a 5 speed 4:10 axle with an overdrive (ZF Trans.) I have installed a ATS Turbo, Gear Vendors Overdrive and have put in a free flowing Jardine Exhaust system.
I am interested as to these additions have increased my towing capacity?:grin2

Thanks

Your legal towing capacity was set at the Ford factory when your truck was made. Nothing you do will increase the legal capacity of the truck.

Besides the factory specs, I've always tried to let common sense enter the equation. Well adjusted trailer brakes, how far back or forward the trailer axles are, etc.

Adding equipment (especially heavy things like an OD) reduces the capacity available for cargo & trailer weight. So you've lowered its towing capacity.

When we're dealing with a 10,000-15,000 pound tow issue, somehow a 40 pound OD unit doesn't seem real significant.

IDK where you got 40 lbs from - Gear Vendors says it's 0.06kg, which is 0.13 lbs.

https://www.gearvendors.com/product/...-4-speed-e40d/

So I don't really know what it weighs. But whatever it weighs, the truck's towing capacity has been REDUCED by at least that much.
