My New Truck

After enjoying my 99 F-50 PSD for 20 years I figured I'd better get a new truck before my luck ran out. While I still enjoy the smell of diesel in the morning I decided to get a gasser. I'm getting old, still like to do my own oil changes, but am finding I struggle strength-wise to get the oil filter off off my 7.3L. Guess that sort of thing happens when you're aging out.

So I ordered a Platinum just to spoil myself... Here's the build:

2018 Ford F-250 Platinum, Crew Cab, 8' Box, 6.2L Valve Gas SOHC EFI NA V8 (Flex-Fuel) Engine, TorqShift-G 6-Speed SelectShift Automatic transmission, 3.73 Electronic Locking Axle Ratio, 4x4, SRW

Exterior Color: Shadow Black
FX4 Off-Road Package
Snow Plow Prep Package
10,000/9,900 GVWR Package

Splash Guards Front/Rear
Hood Deflector-Black Molded
Bedliner-Tough Bed Spray-in
Engine Block Heater
Medium Duty Battery
Alternator-Extra Heavy Duty
LED Roof Marker/Clearance Lamps
3.73 Limited Slip Axle Ratio
Premium Floor Covering-Vinyl
Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Warning with Brake Support

Everything else that comes standard with the Platinum model

A.R.E Topper, Shadow Black
Western 8' Pro Plow

Ordering the truck wasn't a happy moment. I still have pride of ownership in my ever faithful '99 PSD... and this new truck cost three times what my parents paid for the home in SoCal that I grew up in... My mind has always had difficulty accepting inflation.

Sounds like a nice truck. You are more brave than I am with black!!

Anyway, I am interested in your hood deflector. I saw one at my local dealer that lays really flat on the hood, mostly to protect from rocks. I've done extensive clear-bra, but I know it can't withstand a direct blow the hood may see.

Guess we'll see what it looks like when I get it. In a picture I saw it looks a lot like the one I have on the '99 (sold the '99 today)... which worked pretty good for bugs.

I started getting black vehicles so I wouldn't agonize over what color. We've got three black Fiestas, a black Escape, and will soon have a black truck (probably not the best color for a truck. I really liked the green color they offered in 2000. Aside from just going black, I didn't think much of the color options for the 2018s...

20 years ago there wasn't a whole lot of difference between an F250 and F350 but nowadays the F350 is definitely in a different class from the F250. Congrats on your new truck!

I stopped and looked at the hood deflector at the dealer today since I had a few minutes to kill. That parts dept. is clueless and I am done dealing with them!!! Anywho, the display was a product made by Lund, that does indeed stick down with 3m double sided tape. It was called Aeroskin.

https://www.realtruck.com/lund-textu...017Y743MA.html (textured version)

https://www.stage3motorsports.com/32...or-Smoked.html

The parts dept had two options in their book.
HC3Z-16C900-C - black molded (at a price just short of $200)
HC3Z-16C900-D - Chrome

I kinda like the Ford one since it says SUPERDUTY

Here's an image of the bug deflector I received. The dealer forgot to order it before the truck got here so I had to bring the truck back to have it installed. It does lay close to the body and I can't imagine it changing the air flow much... hope I'm wrong about that. It'll at least keep rock dings from the front of the hood and it looks really nice. Unless you step up close to the truck you can't even see that there is a deflector on it.

This deflector connects with two screws and a bunch of clips. I was pleasantly surprised since I don't think I would have trusted glue alone.
