|Barchetta||I like my Hydra and I like the price too. Call any one of many tuners for it and if they arent willing to have a conversation with you about your needs then just call another. You are never stuck with one.|

Agree with above post!! Backing is hard on the auto tranny (heat). 4x4 low when backing. I would also add the 6.0 trans cooler and trans temp gauge, simple bolt in project.

|[email protected]||2000 7.3 Excursion 153,000 original miles stock tires turbo ect. I’ve had a Superchips program in tow haul for 12 yrs never towed anything over 3,000. Until this last weekend experienced turbo surge. Hauling a newer 8,400lb travel trailer from Montana to NW Washington. On arrival home in my drive way Trans fluid ran from my bell housing as I was backing it in to place. Now I’m looking to build this truck to make cross country trips once or twice a year with this travel trailer with decent fuel economy and good towing capability. Any good ideas. Hydra? Turbo? Trans?|

How is your XP1 trans????

I’ve heard that story quite a few times. It’s always the trucks fault.
In some cases the truck does have issues. Especially low icp or trans issues
But if one particular person at DP handles the email good luck.
Jody or Justin offer great service. It’s the extra member of the team who doesn’t know how to tune or know these trucks that muddies the water.
I think that particular person has been told to stay out of things now....Because customer service has improved.

Sorry to hear that, did you give them a chance to remedy?

|txgp17||I tried DP tunes and hated the way they performed, and wasn't happy the with service, or lack thereof, after the sale.|

|Troyl||DP. The best way to go for me as well! It's how the truck should have been from the start.... There is a whole other truck inside the one you have now...|

Sorry to bring this thread back around...just my two cents...
First you will want to get some gauges so that you can make sure you are not going to do any damage and you can see how your rig reacts/runs on different tunes etc. I have the old school gauges but there are units now that are basically a screen that you can hook to display what ever gauges you want and even pull trouble codes. Then I would get your air intake and exhaust set up so it can breathe. I went with the Ford AIS unit and a 4" exhaust. Once that is done you can get tunes. I run DP tuner in my truck. I called them told them what mods I had on my truck and they made custom tunes for towing, HP, fuel economy, etc. I have it set up so I can change tunes on the fly. Here is a run down on my rig

I would join the dieselstop.com its a free online forum with tons of info and some great people. Any time I have had an issue or question about my Truck they have been there with the answer. Many times with detailed step by step info. I joined in 2004 when I bought my truck and since that time I have gotten info on everything you could ever want to know about the 7.3 Heck in 2013 they walked me through replacing my tranny (which I did in my driveway).

I know my 97 7.3 is the generation before yours, but I used an Edge programmer in the "Safe Tow" tune (because that's what I used the truck for) and it turned it into a towing animal. That, and the installation of a Banks intercooler, Banks billeted torque converter and a whole bunch of stuff. Then I "gauged up" with an EGT gauge, tranny temp gauge, and the mostly useless boost gauge.
I just recently decided to sell it, and it breaks my heart . . .

|69mach1377||I've had tuners that really mess with onboard fuel economy gages and give false high readings...|
