If the pan was tweaked/damaged, I think I would've probably bought a new Milodon pan and gasket setup. Supposed to be a bit heavier of a pan, and much easier to seal without using the Ford silicone gasket stuff...
To bad you couldn't have cleaned it all up and made it look purty before you put it all back together...

Couldn't quite believe it, but here we are. Better than a cracked block or something catastrophic like that. Engine came out in three hours flat this time, rather than it being an all day affair. Started at noon and had the pan back on to cure and was still home by dinner time. Pretty happy with myself on that one.
Guess the pan must have gotten tweaked at some point and I either missed it or it got knocked around on install and made the matter worse. Hammered it back straight, absolutely drenched it in the TA31, and buttoned it back up. Hopefully tomorrow I get to actually drive the truck.

|bugman||When you pull the engine why not use some of that old oil and poor it into the engine and see if you can see where it is leaking as you fill it? First I would clean up a lot of the mess and then try it.|

|Redlineauto||At this point I'm fairly confident the corner of the pan isn't sealed right. Maybe I didn't get it back into shape enough to form a good bond. But looking at the oil galley on the old block, oil comes straight out and hits that corner. As much as I can't believe it, it makes sense and that's what is wet. Engine comes back out Monday.|

I think if one of these plugs was missing, that it would leak/bleed basically all of the oil pressure from the engine; the engine probably wouldn't even start/run. Also, it would be "blowing" out on to the flywheel, being flung out (the oil in the video appeared to be coming right down the block).
If that plug was loose (enough to leak), I don't think it would be at the volume seen in the video.
There is a plug on the back of the turbo pedestal, (visible at the top of the second photo), but that one would be outside/above the bell housing, so I don't think the oil would be coming out where it was in the vid.

|klhansen||I recall there being a plug behind the rear camshaft bearing. Similar to a freeze plug. If that were missing or loose, it could dump lots of oil into the space behind the block. I used to have a photo, but can't seem to track that down now.|

|Redlineauto||My scope gets here tomorrow, hopefully that'll be a conclusive answer. I still think, as much as it shouldn't be possible, it's that corner of the pan. The upper back of the motor is visibly dry. The valley is visibly dry. I can't see much above the pan, but I can sort of feel it, and it feels dry. The only place I can see oil and the only place that feels wet is that corner of the pan. So if it's not that, it's something that feeds into that galley in a place that's not readily visible.|

|RT||It almost has to be coming from up top. In your video, the oil is clearly coming out of the bellhousing area. Valve cover gaskets, oil rail end plugs, cracked heads, etc. would all be coming from outside the bellhousing. The ONLY thing that can leak internal to the bellhousing are things that either drain out the valley drain hole or the rear main seal. There is no way it is a RMS.|

Are you sure that it is leaking when filling and not just residual oil that has been sprayed or accumulated somewhere on the block?
But I agree on having someone start the engine while you are watching. That much oil coming out you should be able to see it in a heart beat.

|Redlineauto||I just don't understand how something in the valley can leak when adding oil to a drained engine. And I'm going to look again when my scope gets here, but I am willing to bet my entire bank account that it's not coming from up top.|

|themule67||The only time I ever lost that much was when the exhaust back pressure valve on the turbo failed. I left the truck running ran into the house grabbed a cup of coffee maybe 4-5 min. I came back out and oil was pouring out from under the truck popped open the hood and oil was overflowing the valley front and back. A piece of rag was blocking the drain hole at the back of engine and it wasn't draining like it should that is why it overflowed the valley. If I remember correctly I lost about 3 gal. during that 4-5 min. Good luck! themule|

|RT||Personally, I'd fill it up with a gallon or two of used oil or the cheapest oil you can find. Then I'd get up on top with a flashlight and have someone start it. It is definitely coming from the valley. A leak that big, you should be able to find it within a few seconds. The only time I ever had a leak close to that, it was coming from a blown HPOP line fitting.|
