Re: Help Needed

I almost forgot. right now on my truck I am runnin 305/70r16s. If I add the 2" leveling kit to the front do ya'll think it will give me enough clearance for 315s(or bigger?). I think it will work easily because the 305s don't rub at all. I just have a few critics who don't think that will be enough room for the meats.

Re: Help Needed

Hey fellas thanks for the warm welcome. I don't just tow the boat. I also tow various other things(26' cattle trailer, tractor, etc...). So believe me the truck does do some work. I was just saying that I tow my boat more than anything. I have been looking at those 6 pos chips ya'll mentioned, and they look good. But what I was refering to was not a programmer. It is a chip with the digital display that you locate inside the cab. The display gives off all of your gauges plus you can change settings on the fly. It is the Edge Juice module w/ Attitude Monitor. I was wondering if it would just be easier to get this in one bundle instead of going and getting gauges and then getting a chip. I was told that with this you can still stack another programmer for later on down the road.

Re: Help Needed

I would say if you are debating a chip or a programmer look at it this way. The programmer will not give you on the fly changes. So if you are set on your "hot" program and you want to hook up to something heavier than your boat you will have to hook up the programmer and change it, but with a chip it is just as easy as turning up or down the radio. Plus as stated either a DI or a DP chip will out run a programmer any day. just my $.02.

Re: Help Needed

mgrice1981, welcome to the site. I see you live right around the corner from me. I live in Florence. I am running the Superchip Tuner, but I am planning on upgrading to a DP 6 position pretty soon. You definately need gauges, and then add the tunes. I couldn't believe the difference the Superchip made on my truck, and the DP tuner smokes the Superchip. So saying that if I were you I would save the money and go straight to the DP tuner instead of doing like me buying one and then a little while later changing to the real Tunes.

Hey fellas,
I'm pretty new here, and was curious as to what ya'll might reccomend. I have a 2001 F-350 SRW 4x4 with AFE Stage II, and that's about all performance wise I have done to it, and I feel it is time to get a programmer, or a chip. I was wondering what ya'll might recommend I am thinking about the Edge Juice w/ the attitude monitor (i like the idea of having in cab control plus the gauges) or should i go with one of the 6 pos chips if so what would ya'll reccomend. The truck is a daily driver. I do a good bit of towing with it also (mostly a 19' bass boat). Plus I would like to be able to smoke a Hemi everynow and then. Ya'lls help would be greatly appreciated.

I have little use for a programmer myself, but thats 100% personal preference. Like redtruck said, the bass boat ain't much of a work out for that truck. So you are pretty much free to go mild to as wild as you like. Keep surfing this site, and eventually the light will go on to exactly what direction you wish to go with your truck. A Walker Big Truck Muffler, might be a step in the right direction, until you decide if you want a full exhaust system. Get your gauges before your chip for sure. The really cool thing about doing gauges early on; you'll get to see each and every gain your truck makes through your gauges.

Re: Help Needed

First off, welcome to TDS!

Second, congrats on the AFE II.

Third, open up the exhaust & get gauges.

Fourth, a 19' bass boat ain't towing with your truck. You could tow the Hemi towing the boat and still smoke the Hemi with the right mods and enough $$, but I digress.

Check out the DP-Tuner link in my sig. He can set you up with a simple PCM re-tune, an SCT tuner w/ standard to wild, custom tunes, or a 6-position chip. That really should be the first on the list, but diplomacy still has it's place.

I've got an 80hp PMT1 PCM with which I daily drive and have towed (regularly) anywhere from 2.5K to 8K #'s with never less than 16 mpg and a hwy best (empty) of 21.3mpg.

BTW, you'll soon want to sell the boat in order to buy more goodies for your truck!

Enjoy!
