When I had that problem it was the tensioner...

When I had that problem it was the tensioner pulley. Ford Parts guy said that they are the first to go. My first one went at about 115,000 miles.

Hi! If you like doing your own work, then look under the hood on a 1999 - 2005 and see if you want to deal with that confining space. I know 179k is nothing for a 7.3 PSD and would imagine the same...

I've got a 1997 w/ a 3.55 and I get 17 - 19 depending on wind at 65 - 70 mph. Sounds about righ to me.

Congrats on the find - I have a '97 cargo van that i changed the rear from a 4.10 to 3.55 LSD and the gave up 4k in GCVWR. My mileage is about 18 - 20 mpg depending on terrain.

If you are going to go that route you might want to check Guzzle's web site for the Hutch Mod on the fuel tank. Also a great place to get O-rings, etc. Good Luck!
