Hey guys! New to the page and need some help! I’ve got a 1999 7.3L with just over 200k miles. I towed this past winter time towing a flat bed with a My Prerunner on it and 3 dirt bikes in the bed. No problem at all. Flash forward to now, I hooked up the truck to a 26ft enclosed trailer for our race buggy and started to pull it around the block and noticed the truck was sputtering bad and almost felt like it was starting to slip. I have a controller on the truck for towing and thought it was that so we started messing with it. Wasn’t registering at first but finally it started to register there was a trailer and it started to clean up a bit until we hit a steeper grade and it started to sputter again. The truck has a full banks kit, upgraded turbo, injectors, with a 5 in full exhaust all the way back. It is however on 37s. Any help would be appreciated as I’ve got a race this weekend and I need the truck to tow!

I've never heard of a transmission sputtering. Can you describe what it was doing?

I suspect you have misfire. If the transmission is really slipping you can tell from the dipstick. The fluid will be black and smell burnt.

Then the transmission isn't slipping. If it were, the fluid would be black and burnt in the first mile or two. You have an engine problem, not a transmission problem.
