I am looking at picking up a '00 7.3PSD Excursion for my wife and kids. I make BD but haven't been on the forums for over a year. Is this a good motor for BD? I didn't pay much attention before to other motors, I was running it in a '85 6.9, I miss that truck.

I ran my 7.3 and my 6.0 on 100 percent biodiesel in spring, summer, fall. I blended with kero or diesel in winter. Never a fuel related problem with other than gelling in winter on extreemly cold days. Now I have the 6.7 but have not used any bio as of yet.

Thanks. I am concerned as I have been looking at some of the 6.0s as well but I have been hearing horror stories from mechanics that I am growing to trust about catastrophic failures on rigs that aren't even running BD. Can someone point me to a link or thread so I can do some good research?
Thanks,
Luke

One of the best motors around for running biodiesel. With it's hydraulic actuated injector system it's tough and tolerant of alternative fuel. I have run my own homebrew in my '01 PSD F250 4x4 for the past 4 years (20k miles or so), on mostly B100. Last winter when it dipped into the teens, I blended down to B70 with pump #2. As you know, it rarely gets that cold around here.

Stick with the 7.3. Just like Bunyua said, The injectors will work better for you. Especially if you start doing WVO instead of Biodiesel. My 7.3 did much better with miles per gallon also. I looked for a good used 7.3 before I bought the 6.7 but did not see anything apealing the time.

You will be just fine running 100% bio or heated SVO in a 7.3. There are quite a few guys running bio & SVO in a 6.0 & yes the 6.0 injectors are less tolerant then the 7.3 & the engine itself has been a turd for many. I beleive that with some mods the 6.0 can become a very reliable engine though.

I wouldn't say no to a 6.0 but I would prefer the 7.3.
