Ok so I have a 2000 f250 that was/is making a poping sound when locked in. I assume its the U-joints so I pull it down and the ujoint seems ok however the shaft has a little bit of slop in it. It appeared the outer seal was messed up so i replaced it while at the dealer I talked with the tech and he said I needed the plastic spacer in there. My truck had no spacer? so I got that and put it all back together new seal, new spacer. It all snug now however when locked in it makes a popping noise again from the same driverside.

So now I'm assuming its the Ujoint even though it seems ok...

My question is I've never replaced these Ujoints and it appears they have metal caps/hats on the outer edge. How do you get these so called caps off..

I'm used to ujoints in driveshaft where you simply get the c clip out and then press out..

I appreciate any and all help you can or will provide...take care fellows...

nobody knows?

I just need to know how to replace the ujoints? they have what looks like metal caps/cover on them. I have done the normal ujoints where you simply get the c clip out of there than press the joint out of place....but these have like metal caps hiding or covering the caps? how do you get those off?

This is what the caps look like...

I am not sure but it looks like the C clip might be on the insde. I have delt with different U joints on all types of stuff and some have the C clips in the middle of the joint.

The photo showa an internal clip-style u-joint. When you pull the axleshafts out you'll see exactly how they hold the u-joint in.
