Automatic transmission will not shift past 2nd gear and has trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd as well. Also when driving, when you let off the throttle while driving the rpms drop back to idle though it should still be in gear(im not sure if that is normal or a symptom of what is wrong). I've never noticed it happening before though so I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to do that.

Not to be judgemental, but have you checked the tranny fluid level? That's the first thing you should do. It won't do a thing without fluid in it.

Do you post just for the sake of it? If anyone has some real insight as to what might actually be wrong with the trans then any help would greatly be appreciated.

i had a simimlar problems,turned to be a stuck valve.

is your o/d light blinking?if so pull the codes.thats the only way to start diagnosing.

No code reader has been able to pull codes from it and there is no O/D light because the shifter was replaced with one that uses a light on the dash, where previous the light was on the shifter, therefore there is no light on the dash, or the shifter. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the blinks of the light give out a code?

No blinky codes. What kind of scan tools have been used? Could be hydraulic, not electrical, and a check of the fluid level is always a good idea, just for GP.

not all code readers can read psd's,so even if you have to take it somewhere to check for codes have that done.most auto parts stores readerss wont work.my tranny had a shift issue where it seemed like it wouldnt shift outta first until i released the throttle a little,then it would shift.well actually by paying close attention (and the help of a ford diesel tranny guy)we figured out it was starting out in 2nd gear,and it wasnt a first gear issue.BUT my tranny also threw codes regarding shift malfunction and incorrect gear ratio.so i rebuilt my valve body using sonnax valves,(shimmed up a little),replaced the line press mod valve with a sonnax .427 and she shifts clean and smooth with a nice firm shift.so long story short find someone(delar,tranny shop,friend)who can check for codes and start there.also,make sure your fluid is full and not BLACK....GOOD LUCK
