Hi everyone,

I have been doing some research and just wanted some feedback if you think I am on the right track.

Truck info: No mods but the HPOP was replaced 3500 miles ago

Symptoms: The truck will not start or is very hard to start cold (about 70 degree's here in the morning) Then once it warms up approx 10 min idle the truck has little to no power and will kinda stutter when accelerating and it blows a grayish smoke not allot. This goes away after it reaches operating temp and the truck runs fine.

So I have already cleaned the MAFS but have not checked it with the multi meter yet. I intend on checking the FICM tomorrow when I can borrow the multimeter. I also had the batteries checked today and both are at 12.75v.

Just wondering if you would suggest any other things to check? and if it sounds like this is a good start.

Thanks

Did you check your FICM voilts? Also you might want to try running synthic oil like a Rotella T6,IMOI this trucks run the best when there are at normal temp Plus it's not a good idea to pull out of your driveway and start running the crap out of it,before it's at normal temp that's how you blow a head gasket.

Check your FICM. It should read 48V with key on, while cranking, and when running. I had the exact problem you're describing a few weeks ago and my FICM voltage was down to 20V while running. Had it rebuilt and now truck runs perfect. You can get it repaired for $300-350.

Just checked the voltage and with key on I am getting 48.75v while cranking it drops to 17v and some change. It won't start so I plugged in the block heater and will try to get the start voltage. Or do you think the diagnostic work is done because the voltage went to 17v during cranking?

Thanks

I had a 6.0 about a week ago (for about 4 years). I had the same problem with the hard starts, no power for the first 20-30 mins, and gray smoke. Havent heard anything about the voltages of anything but def take a look at your EGR. My 6.0 went through 3 sets injectors, 3 turbos, 4 EGRs, 2 injector control modules and had a glow plug problem at the end. I spent more on maintance on that truck then purchasing it. Dont know what your using that truck for but def consider getting rid of that truck unless you have gotten rid of EGR delete and have had your head studs replaced. But i do have to say my 6.0 got better fuel mileage than my 7.3, 2 - 6.4's, and my new 6.7. But i got rid of it due to that smoking/no power problem becuase i spent way to much on that truck and it was bout time to say goodbye.

Repair the FICM - period!

FICMrepair.com does a very good job at a reasonable price.
