my F350 started to hesitate while towing under heavy load (up hills, etc.).

It would sputter real bad almost like a turbo waste gate isn't working right or is fluttering (although the 04 doesn't have one...)

truck has 195K miles, never any issues ever since I had it for 90k miles...

Thoughts?

I probably should add that there are no check engine lights and nothing else appears to be abnormal.

Without a load, it runs and drives great even with hard and fast acceleration.

But, hook a trailer behind it with a truck on it and under heavy loads up a hill it periodically studders and looses power. power-no power-power-no power, really fast, about 3 times per second and will last as long as I hold the pedal down. I back off to about half throttle and it seemed to be OK. It seems to be getting worse with less load on less steep hills...

Its my first "issue" with this truck so I haven't had the need to do a lot of research. I've looked around but most of what I find is the "burping" people get from letting off the throttle under heavy acceleration (normal...), which mine does but this is not my issue.

Seems to be getting a little worse.

sounds like the "burp" the turbo does when accelerating hard then let off the accelerator.

Problem is, I'm not letting off, it does it automatically and is doing it about 2-3 times per second for as long as I hold the pedal down to the floor. Only does it during hard/heavy towing but has recently showed up with just a moderate load in the bed of the truck.

Help to identify the problem and solution before I head to a mechanic?

Have you removed and cleaned the egr valve? Also check it for the pink dot. This is the updated one. Have someone to pull any codes and post these. It will help point us in the right direction. b

Haven't checked the egr valve yet. Been working too much to do anything vehicle maint. related. I should have a chance to take a look this weekend.

Thanks!

My 05 was acting very similiar to what you described. After checking a lot of things and messing around with it for a few weeks I took it for a drive and could make it act up at will. I pulled over and shut off the truck, unplugged the egr valve and hopped back in for a drive. Its been unplugged now for 2k miles and hasn't acted up at all. I plan on doing a proper delete when time allows.
