My father wants to get another X, we have a 02,(Still running strong) But we are wanting a new one, are there any real differences between the 04 and the 05 or anything that I should keep my eye out for?
The 05 6.0L engine has some changes that make it better than 03-04. They don't have as many head gasket issues and run alot better. They pretty much fixed everything that was wrong with the older ones. If you want a really great one get an 06 with the new headgaskets. The newest 06's have a whole new head design that makes then run like no other plus a few other goodies. 05 and up is fine though.

Big difference was all 05 X's built after Jan 05 got the 05 engine. Worth the difference.

Negative on this. The sticker on the engine says '05 but the '05 Excursion engines are all '04 carryovers, 560 ft/lbs and all. They might have been assembled in '05, but they don't include the '05 updates that the 6.0's in the trucks got. Just like the '05 V10 Excursions didn't get the three valve heads. Kinda disappointing but my new "'04" had the latest 'flash' updates (at least)
