I found a great price on Moog replacement u-joints for the entire Excursion. So, my question is, how hard are the front axle u-joints to replace? The drive shaft u-joints are dead simple but I suspect the front axle u-joints cannot be replaced in-place.

Thoughts?

You have to pull the hub/bearing units off and remove the axle shafts to replace the axle u-joints. Be advised that the usual ball joint press that can be used on the driveshaft u-joints won't work as the axle joints are larger and won't fit thru the hole. A shop press is the best way to do them, (or the BFH method). Also, you'll probably need the seals for the knuckle that are just outboard of the u-joints, as they'll likely get damaged in the process. Plan on spending a half day on both of them if you've never done one before.
