Is this an issue with the engine such as turbo lag or is it due to the Torqueshft tranny? It won't even get out of it's own way when hammering on it from a dead stop. It's almost gotten me in trouble twice. Once it hits about 2200 rpms it get up and haul, but until then it is sslllooowww. I had a 7.3l with the 6 speed previous to this and I never felt like I was lacking power taking off from a red light, stop sign, etc... Will a programmer or module help with this?

The trick is to "squeeze" the throttle, don't hammer it!. My 05 has serious turbo lag if I hammer the throttle but is much better when I remember to squeeze the throttle.

Welcome to the 6oh. I found doing some basic mods helped out a lot. Exhaust, tune, and power braking when jumping across an intersection helped a lot. The EGR cycling makes them sluggish at idle. I turned mine off for testing and it responded much faster IMO. The 6oh jsut doesn't grunt like the 7.3

Welcome to the world of new diesels. This isn't going to go away. Its programed so you can not belch out clouds of black smoke by over fueling on take off.

You will need to retrain your driving habits. A tuner & some other mods will help, but will also put you out of waranty coverage. Like others have said, roll into the throttle, and you may need to power break a bit to get the tach up to where its putting out lots of power.

My 05 is the same so don't feel bad.I found the doing the power brake thing works very well.I use this method alot.I'm not heavy on the throttle but i put enough into it to get the rpms up and the boost rising......then away you go !!! You'll get used to it.After the first few times of almost getting "T" boned i figured out this method of preloading the turbo.

Mine used to be this way and I drove my grandfathers and it was a world of difference. Soon later I got a recall on some 05's and 06's. they need to remap the stock chip. Took it in for the day picked it up and a world of difference. See about your dealing testing to make sure all the mappings are set correctly. Just a thought....unfortunately every diesel built runs different

If I'm in a hurry and NEED to chance it,
I'll do the power brake thing a bit too...
and it GOES !!!!

but if we're having to power brake or complain about the turbo lag, maybe we're pulling out in to tight a window of opportunity /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My 05 is the same way. Once I lined up next to an older Dodge (2000) at an intersection and when the light changed I tried to have a go with him but he blew my doors off! He had a stock exhaust so I'm pretty sure he wasn't chiped or anything.

I still own an 89 Dodge with Cummins Diesel. It's faster than my new truck off the line and for about 200 feet or more. Then the Ford finally starts moving. Sort of embarrasing if you ask me.
My 05 makes good power when it's reved up but in stop & go situations that turbo/EGR lag sucks.
It's most dangerous when your approaching an intersection and the light turns yellow and you have to make a decision to slam on the brakes or floor it. That's when that power delay can get you into trouble!

So what if the Dodge will beat you at 200 feet. What about 500 feet or 5 miles down the road? You'll be far ahead of the dodge by that point. But I don't condone road racing or anything. However, I am one of many who has an urge to let her rip when I see another truck (including other Fords, but especially the Dodges and Chevys /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

As far as your problem when approaching lights at intersections...we've all had to make those decisions. Generally, I will try to stop if I know I can get stopped safely. However, once the truck is rolling like that I've never had a lack of power when needed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

I have never had any lack of power when punching while moving forward. I actually can feel the truck drop down a gear and really take off.

Don't just put the pedal to the floor, the 6.0 doesen't seem to like that, you need to kind of squeeze it like has been posted. Ease into the first bit of throttle and then kind of pick up the pace as you move towards full throttle. It's not as slow as it sounds once you get used to it. Also putting it in Tow/Haul before you try to race will help.

I found out about the lag myself while trying to turn across traffic. It does tend to make you pucker.

Try launching in 4H, jk.

There are some specific things in the stock tune that can be adjusted. First is the pedal ramp, the delay can be taken out and a difference will be noticed even with everything else stock. Then there is a tune for power, that will make a huge difference as well.

This trick only fools the driver into thinking the truck is supposed to take off slow cuz you're pushing the pedal slow. The truck's performance does not change.

In Other Words...get used to the lack of power on take off. No sense in mashing the pedal, since it doesn't work that way.
