i may not have a choice considering its on my registration renewal... took awhile but they have got me. my truck has NEVR been flashed, runs great (although i think it has started to leak from the rear main, seen this yesterday), but still engine wise... runs well. truck has had some romps on cold starts - and i know this flash will fix this. guess my concern is, will it cause other things to go wrong on the truck? i am of the "if it isnt broke dont fix it " mindset, and i dont want to be opening up a can of worms because of a flash. any thoughts?

Most of the folks who have the latest flash seem to like it. However, I am not sure how many of them went from an original flash straight to this one, so their satisfaction may be skewed by the many poor flashes that came in between.

I will be curious to hear how you like this flash. Like you, I have never been reflashed and starting this year, I have had the romps on cold weather starts. I have been considering having the flash done but have thus far resisted it due to not knowing how it compares to the one I have now.

I wouldn't do it. The dealer flashed my 2004 and killed the power and economy. I took it in for a turbo and asked before I took it to them if it had to be flashed. They said it didn't, so I brought the truck in and made it perfectly clear that I did not want it flashed. They did it anyway. The truck is a slug now. At least 50 HP went away and 1 mpg. Once they flash it, there is no going back to what you had before. I believe that the tech enters the vin number of your truck and Ford sends them the current flash for "your" truck.
The induction heat flash does help it start better when it is cold but detuning the engine is not worth it. I did some data logging to try and find what happened (they didn't tell me that they had flashed the truck) and found the injection timing in the negative numbers. I'm guessing that is part of the detuning strategy.

I think its alright. I dont' think my truck had the stock tune but I can still get close to 20mpg and smoke my wore out 35s, so I don't think I lost power or mileage. I only did it to mine because I didn't want to pay $350 for a new EBP sensor.

I've was having nasty startup and idle romps including while at stoplights. Decided it was time to do something about it. Dealer tried the first time and failed. The second time they flashed it against my orders not to. I do NOT have any of the problems that i experienced prior to the flash, but I've lost about 1 mile in fuel economy and some hp. I don't work the truck hard in terms of towing and heavy loads, so the final result is better than what is WAS doing. But I'd be unhappy of I relied on the original hp.
I have 190k on the truck now and have been very satified overall.

Wer..surprised ca. dmv missed you till now. You still have..OEM p.i. (pilot injection) if a/t..orig. tow/haul program. AFAIK..you'll get 2 open recal. Read here..6.0 PowerStroke bulletins Should include the updated inductive flash. Brief....

1- Reflash will eliminate..p.i. If a/t..t/h 3/2 dshift will be softer. You may also notice a diff. in how tq.converter locks/unlocks. Generic scanners can read DTCs etc.

2-Deletes EBP. Turbo cycles etc. which maybe a + ? Also..did you do batt. connection recall?

I held out till 11/06 & got both at one time which included the orig. f.i. (buzz) after shutdown. You'll get the f.i. inductive flash with no noise after shutdown. Anyhow...

Pros...I noticed no real loss of hp/mpg. Romps/lots smoke on startups..hesitation/jerk shifting D/R & R/D fixed. I suspect p.i. delete fixed romps, but also got the f.i.(buzz) flash for cold starts etc.

Cons..lost p.i. which I wanted & paid for=:nono::ford:. Preferred oem t/h program, but can manual dshift.

Yeah, I know the feeling on reflashing. Early on & for awhile a real mess. Im ok. Good luck!

It's OK. It is my second reflash: I got the October '03 reflash to get rid of the cold weather romps and no turbo boost if I let it idle before driving. In the process I lost the PI but retained the agressive T/H mode and mileage improved. Three years later I had it in for warranty repairs and without asking they installed the 06E17. The downside was a less-agressive T/H mode but mileage didn't change any. Given my pick, I would rather still have the October flash.

Wer..ok. Good luck!

Mist..I recall past reports on reflashing..loss of power/detuning..mpg. When did yours get reflashed?

I was able to NOT have mine reflashed till 11/06. Obvious concerns, but overall ok. (pros/cons)

Best I could tell (post flash) standing starts..pedal to metal & OTR passing etc..power maybe just a tad less. Dont know how to describe 50 hp loss. Like I said..I didnt notice a "real drop" in power. Also my mpg are still fairly consistent pre/post flash. Still wierd how reflashing works. Have you thought about a tuner? Good luck!

ok flash was done. truck seems fine (ran fine before hand as well). however the turbo seems to be cycling a lot. changes pitch constantly - is that normal? and i have some extra buzzing when i turn the key ahead... otherwise its fine so far.

ohh and BTW oddly enough,,, despite the DMV having the recall notice on my renewal, they DID NOT need the paperwork when i renewed... so the flash was done for nothing....

wer..t. cycling is normal. Is buzz sound new, meaning not fuel pump noise while WTSLight on? I assume you noticed e. is louder at idle? Good reflash (overall) ok for you.

btw..yeah, DMV certainly wierd!
