/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I was just wondering if any of you techs or customers out there has had this concern yet on one of these trks. the one in my shop has blown 2 radiators so far. 1st trip in it did'nt overheat then the 2nd time in it did overheat. the ford engineers are very concerned about this concern & are investigating it. it had alot of oil & water content in the intercooler this time. damage to the eng. is already done i believe. it runs great though w/ no misfires or smoke. engineers said they were going to send out a international engineer to investigate next week & did not want me to go any furthur. there was one other concern w/ this where they have found a restriction in the tube coming out the frt, cover that goes back to the heater core. it is a y-tube that y's off to the heater core & to the degas bottle. mine was ok. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif

When you say "blown" did they actually come apart as in explode or the coils erupt. We had one report of a radiator component failure on here where it seems a fastner came loose. It would take some kind of pressure to blow one up. That is scary.

You have a point there frobozz. International will put that into consideration i assume. like i said they are really concerned w/ this issue. they may want to send this eng. back to their plant to disassemble it completely & go over it w/ a fine tooth comb. have'nt had any other input on this on any of my other diesel sites yet.

This is the thread that TUT was referring to: Post I hoped I never had to make...

For those of us who are about to place orders for the new 6.4L, it sure would be good to know whether or not these are isolated incidents.

First thing that comes to mind for me is overpressuring from combustion gases, say going by an EGR cooler or... head gaskets.

It takes a bit of pressure to burst a radiator hose or radiator. This is truck #2 on this forum bursting a cooling related component. And the fact that one was a hose and one was a rad tells me this isn't a hose or a rad problem, but something else. The chance of having a bad rad and a bad hose on two different trucks and them both bursting are pretty low. I'd say the cooling system is way over pressuring.

The radiator cap should relieve the pressure, but for some reason it isn't, or at least not enough of it.

Well so far after replacing the cap after i tested the old one it has been ok. The egr ports are dry but the intercooler & cac pipes were full of oil. Hooked up the t in the dgas bottle & drove it & it never went above 7 lbs. Hooked up the customers trlr. & stayed the same. The only thing that happened was when i was driving it w/out the trlr. & simulating by putting it in 3rd going up a hill at 3500 rpm's, the hydrostaic fan kicked in & stayed in all the way back to the shop & set a P0529 for a fan circ. intermittenly open. Cleared the code & sometimes it would turn off but as soon as i would raise the rpm's up it would kick back in. I'm thinking maybe the fan is binding now but it rotates freely when the eng. is off. This trk. is eating my lunch. We were thinking maybe he's pulling too big a load. International engineers told me that these trks. could pull up to 19000 lbs. He has a long gooseneck trlr. Trk. runs great & no smoking. You cant even tell the trlr. is attached.
