Wow! I see this forum doesn't get much traffic, hope I get some responses here.
I've got a recently acquired '08 F350 V10. I'm getting a CEL and P0430 "catalytic system below efficiency blah blah BANK 2."
I also have a rattle, most noticeable at cold start-up. I rolled under the truck yesterday and I'm 99% sure it's coming from the driver's side cat. I knocked the heat shield around but no change, and there's not enough space between the heat shield and cat or debris in there to cause this rattle. It's internal IMO.
Truck has 116k miles which seems low for a cat to be breaking apart? Maybe the 02 sensor has broken inside, although that also seems far fetched and I'm reluctant to pull an 02 sensor until I'm ready to take the truck down for a couple days and deal with boogered threads, profanity, fits of lunacy and a big bottle of rum.
So, really I have 3 questions I guess:
1) has anyone dealt w the P0430 before in a similar vehicle and what did you do about it?
2) has anyone else experienced a "rattling" cat on these trucks (I've seen a fully clogged cat on a '98 Ram but totally different vehicle)
3) WHICH IS CONSIDERED BANK 2? IS THE DRIVER'S SIDE EVEN RELEVANT TO THE CODES HERE?
4) can 5 Star or anyone else tune the PCM to simply ignore catalyst efficiency? I know this is very common on GM's.
Thanks!!
I'd really love to know which is Bank 2, at least then I can know where to look or which 02 sensors to maybe pull.
Oh, best I found in a search was this, not terribly related:
