I'm just pissed and venting but let me know what you think.

Last friday night/saturday morning at about 1:00 my truck flashed the stop safely now. it then died ans would not crank. I was about 7 hours from home and an hour from where I was camping and atv trailriding. I happend to be a with in a few miles of a friends house. So he pulled me back to his house and we scanned it. It came up p200c p2003 and po2e1 after some research I know it was an egt. The next morning I call 5 ford dealer with in an hour of his house and none of them had a guy that could look at it. So I bought the part and fixed it myself. Knowing that 15m02 should reimburse me, Right????

Wrong - Because my truck is still under the 5 yr/ 60,000 warranty they will not cover the part.

I have talked to 2 different customer service reps either could help. I told me that theyI did exactly what I should have done.....

What would you do?

And

What happened to fords customer service?

Find a different dealer. There are other ways the dealer can compensate you.

Plain and simple, Ford will not pay for warranty repairs (including parts) they do not make. Their warranty is specific about taking your vehicle to an authorized dealer for warranty. It sucks that none of the local dealers could help you out in a timely manner. I recently had to do without my truck for 2 1/2 weeks for repairs that I am well qualified to make but the repairs were covered by Ford and only at a Ford facility. I knew if I chose to repair it myself that I would be on the hook for the expense even though I own a well established repair shop that I could bill the repairs through.

gearhead1011 - had you received a letter in the mail saying if you have made these repairs for would reimburse you for said repair? If I had not gotten that letter I would not be as upset.

Did a dealer tell you if you truck had 12,000 more miles we could get you reimbursed?

If fords programming had put my truck in limp mode instead of shutting it off I wouldn't be so upset.

If any one of the 5 dealers I called would had offer me a loaner I wouldn't be as upset.

I do egt sensors all day... if they are covered under warr which they should be great. but were to cust feel they are entitled to a loaner car..? that's why you buy a extended warr that will "pay" for a loaner... most dealer will only loan out a veh if they bought the veh from them. it is what it is...

That letter probably states that Ford would reimburse you if you had already paid for the repair and to bring it to Ford if the failure occurs after. You would not have paid for the repair because it's still covered under the factory warranty so that does not apply to you. You didn't state what year your truck is or how many miles it has on it but you said it is still covered under the factory warranty so it has to go back to an authorized repair facility, and that is they way it is with any warranty whether it's a new truck or a toaster. Ford has a procedure to follow for diagnosing and repairing and most DIYers follow the guess and check strategy and throw parts at it until it's either fixed or they give up and take it to a shop.

You should still follow through and have the updated programming done because that should prevent a shut down in the future and it changes the regen strategy to prevent the EGT sensor failure.

You never said if you asked for a loaner from any of the dealers you talked to but that typically is a courtesy usually you get from your selling dealer that they do for customer relations. I wouldn't think a dealer 700 miles from where you live would expect to sell you your next new vehicle.

I'm not trying to irritate you, just wanted to shed a little light on the subject from a different perspective.

A) it's a 35 dollar part and many of us carry spares. B) if you had the update done you could have limped to your friends place. So, to be succinct, what are you crying about?
X2.

The recall came out almost 2 1/2 years ago. No excuse for not getting it done in that amount of time that would have completely prevented this whole issue.

Sorry but this is an owner issue, not Ford or dealer issue.

I guess that is part of the reason I'm pissed. Because the dealer that will not even try to process the refund, is the same dealer that told me DO NOT leat anyone perform that recall, it brakes more than it fixes. That is the only reason the recall was not performed.

I have yet to read one person who had the recall done and it left them on the side of the road afterwards. Not only that but ALL trucks built after the date range have this flash from the factory so does that mean every truck is broke now?

I didn't realize it was optional for a dealer to not perform a safety or emissions recall that is required by law.

Man I would have a field day with that dealer!!
