Does anyone know if i could put 17" wheels on my '06 F350? It came with 18" wheels from the factory, and i almost lost it when i saw how much they want for 18" tires. I have a lead on a nice set of aftermarket wheels and tires from an earlier model F250. I am hoping they will fit with little or no modifications. Also, would the backspacing from a 1999-2004 F250 be the same as an '06? THANKS!

The factory 17" wheels will fit your 06, but for aftermarket some will and some won't.

The bolt pattern is the same on all the non-dually Superdutys.

The backspacing is different, the 2005's and newer have about 1-1/2" more backspacing than the 99-04's. It's due to the larger brakes on the 2005 and newer Superdutys.

You can put any 17" rims from any '05-up SuperDuty pickup on your '06.

But almost no one makes aftermarket rims that are hub centric to match the hubs on your truck. Weld stopped making wheels for pickups. Alcoa made all the '99-up Ford factory aluminum wheels, but now they make only aftermarket 20" rims for 2005-up SuperDuty pickups.

So if you look at aftermarket rims, be certain they are hub centric, which means they have a pilot bore (big center hole) of exactly 4.93" = 125.22 mm. The only one I know of is Ultra Wheel, but theirs is a 17"x10" so only big fat tires will safely fit on it.

They will fit fine if the "older" model F-250 is a 2005-up. But watch out for that pilot bore spec. Almost all aftermarket rims for '99-up SuperDuty pickups have a pilot bore of 5" or more, so they are not hub centric.

No. Ford doesn't publish the spec for back spacing, but they do for offset. The offset for '99-'04 rims is 0.25". The offset for '05-up rims is 1.57". So that's almost an inch and a half difference.
