Recently bought a 1986 f350 with a 12 foot flatbed.

A few questions....
Why is the truck shaking at idle? Not real noticeable from in the cab, but from outside it is. Engine seems to idle smooth, no miss.

There is a hole in the passenger side valve cover. Looks like a push rod tried to make a exit at one point. I missed this looking the truck over. What would cause this?

Could the motor mounts be bad?
Hood open, where you can see the motor, put it park (engine off) push on the truck, as it rolls back and forth, look for exessive play of the motor rocking side to side.

If the hole looks like about 1" in size and is clean cut, that cover could have come off an engine with a turbo, the CDR would have been there.

Engine idleing smooth and shaking/rocking,, check the motor mounts, bolts loose or rubber pads soaked with oil. A diesel will have a small amount of shake.
