Hi I have a 1993 f350 IDI. The front tank gauge has never read and I would like to fix that. I've searched the www but found nothing for my make and Diesel truck, just Gas. Has anyone changed a tank sending unit for a 7.3 IDI? Are there models that function from other trucks, perhaps the PowerStroke models?

I would say that all the tanks for the diesel up to 97 will be the same so the sending units should also.

A member on another forum mentioned that he had his sending units for his IDI rebuilt at this shop, you might give them a call and see if they can help you.

I would suggest that you may only have a cracked float which is an easy repair. The hard part is you will have to drop your tank and pull out the pump assembly and that's where you will see the float attachment. They are made of paper thin brass and for some reason they crack and sink to the bottom of your tank. You can get an idea of what they look like by searching Amazon for "fuel floats". I replaced mine with one made of PVC. This is a fairly common problem. Good luck.

No need to drop the front tank. Can very easily be done, just changed one on my 90 the other day. Just make sure to blow off any dirt around there.
