1994 7.3 Reliability

I can only speak from my experience with my 94 and the years here on the forum. The 94's really don't have any different reliability than the other OBS PSDs. There are some parts differences unique to the 94 (belt, pulleys, and a couple of others) that require a little more effort to find. If it pops out of reverse you might be looking at a rebuild on the tranny (which aren't inexpensive to rebuild). One data point for you a ZF-factory rebuilt tranny was $1800. If it still has the original Dual Mass Flywheel, it probably is (or is close to being shot). If the injectors are still original, they may be getting tired (mine was well maintained with regular oil changes and the injectors were close to needing freshening up). Here's a link to Steve Baz's old pages: "Tips - Ideas - Hints" (look about a third of the way dowm for "Buying Used Power Stroke Diesels". Cheers!
