Guys,

me and a friend looked at a 1995 F250 hes interested in the other day with a 5 speed in it. When i shifted the gears it would grind, also grind on the downshift. Is there some trick to these trannys? The guy said they all do it if you dont time your shift/clutching right on and or shift too fast. It seemed more like a clutch perhapse. but the initial engagement in first is fine. The truck is a fair deal at $4500 usd with 208k on it. it starts right up, no smoke, idles like new, no blow by or anything of that nature. The shifter its self felt tight with litle slack.. is there any known issues with these trannys?

wayne

thanks in advance

The clutch rod bushing could be wore out, it connects the master cyl to the clutch pedal. The are made of nylon and tend to wear out often and cause the clutch not to engage all the way.

when i bought mine it didn't grind any gears. so i bought it and let my brother drive it home. the clutch was stiff from the dual mass fly wheel setup so he was shifting without using the clutch. well about 2 weeks later mine started to grind when downshift to 2nd and 1st. took it to the tranny shop and had new gear forks put in as well as seals, etc. but i didn't have the money for the synchronizers. the tranny's in these trucks are pretty easy to drive. i can shift mine pretty fast, if needed, with no grind. just ask the person who owns the truck if you can let the tranny shop look at the tranny before you buy it.
