hello, I have a 96' F250 PSD SB. I am looking to get some new tires and I want to go bigger. I want to smooth the ride a bit and Lower interstate RPM's (4:10's). I am getting new rims. Should I get 8" or 10" wide rims...I dont want my tires sticking out the sides. And how big could I go...I dont want a lift cause this truck is not for wheeling. I saw a guy on this site who said he just had a 2" leveling kit and was running 35". Any thoughts or experiences would be great...and pics if you have some at hand. Thanks to all

2" leveling kit will not fit 35's on the F250's, maybe the 350's. my buddy has a stock F250 with 285's on stock alcoa's and it looks really good. you could probably squeeze 305's in there but it would be tight and you'd have to shim the bumper out. i wouldnt get any wider wheels without adding a little lift.

heres a pic of my truck with 305's and 3.5-4" lift and my buddys with 285s and no lift. both 250's

Buddy of mine has a similiar truck to you, stock suspension. He has 8" wide wheels and 285 on it and it looks great. He did trim the bumper to take the hook out of the trailing edge on the bottom, (look inside fender well infont of tire, at bottom of bumper). I do not think he has any issues with tires touching the bumper now.

exactly, 8" with 285's look the best.

I have had 285/75/16's on mine for several years now, mounted on my stock Alcoa's. Pics are in my sig. I have not had any problems with any interferences.

Soon, I will be going with some 315/70/17's. But I think I do need to do some work to get those in there!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I really blew it and got 10" rims for the 305's. Stick out 2" on the front and throw stuff everywhere. And the 305/70's are barely taller than 235/85's. I wish I had 8" like I planned. 285's, 295's or my favorite 255/85/R16. If you want to lower rpm's look at that one. The tire rack has a nice chart of diameters.

I have 285's on my stock coa's and it looks good they rub on a hard left turn but I just do not crank it full lock. Oh yeah I have a ranch hand front so no issues with bumper. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif At 70 mph I tach 2250 rpms. I have 4.10s so it is livable on the highway.

does anyone know how many mph 285's change the speedo as far as how inaccurate it is

my speedo seems to be right on with the 305's...maybe half a MPH difference.

Mine read a little high with the 265's the PO had on it. From what I can tell it's dead on with the 285's on it now.

Wheels were a big hold-out for me in getting bigger tires. You basically have to have the tire and wheel hanging way out of the wheel well to get a 35" tire on the truck (or you are hitting the leaf springs.

Glad I found my Michelins /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif They fit on 6" wide steels, stock-height truck, run smooth (although loud), are radial, and are rated for 3500# each.
