My 1997 has a cracked fuel filter housing, needs a starter, the hpop/ idm rebuilt, has a butchered injector harness and needs a fuel pump. There is a 99 motor for sale locally. I am not sure if it is an early or late 99. Can I use these parts off a 99, on my 97?

Starter you can use, HPOP and IDM you can use, but not the harness(es) or fuel pump/housing unless you want to convert all that stuff over from a 99 (if that motor has all that stuff). Cheers!

Will the glow plugs and buss bar swap?
The 99 has all of its fuel pump and housing bits. I'd like to swap as much pof the 99 stuff onto the 97, except the injectors. What else can I swap? I am not sure if it a early or late 99.

if you converted to an electric fuel pump you could use everything from teh 99, you can use teh engine harness, by swapping vc gaskets. Its actually a beneficial swap if you do electric pump as well.

The glow plugs will swap over, but I'd recommend putting in new ones if you're going to have the VC's off.
I don't believe you can just swap over the fuel bowl without some bracket fabrication. On the Superduties, the fuel bowl bolts thru the HPOP reservoir, and the reservoirs aren't interchangeable. You'd have to swap the front cover as well, and you probably don't want to go that far.

You can tell if it's an early or late 99 by looking for two relays instead of just the Glow Plug relay in the valley. The second one (closer to the fuel bowl) would be for the Intake Air Heater, which was added on the 99.5's.

The 99 motor is priced at $900. I figured I'd buy it and sell off what I didn't use, giving me a chance to recoup some of the costs of the repairs, assuming the parts are compatible. Is this a good price and a viable option to replace all the items mentioned in post one? Should I swap the entire 99 motor and ecu in the 97? I need to get the rig running and have a tight budget. I am better off with a early or late 99? Should I hold out and look for a 97, since my truck is a 97?

Since your budget is tight buying the engine isn't going to give much really. IMHO
