2000 7.3 PSD Odd Injector/Pump Chatter 1500 RPMs

Bought my 2000 Ford F250 7.3 liter PSD in late July. It makes some odd chatter that can be heard in the cab above the normal pump/injector noise from approx. 1,500 RPMs to approx. 1,700 RPMs. The noise doesn't have a regular rhythm, but comes and goes depending on engine load, and goes away at lower and higher RPMs. The normal pump/injector noise is smooth and doesn't change with the chatter I'm hearing, and the truck runs and pulls smoothly even when making the noise. I've poured through most of the 7.3 liter PSD posts and wonder if this isn't the air in the #6/#8 injector lines issue that seems to be common to these engines? Comments and opinions much appreciated.

I bet you're hearing turbo surge.

It is a chirping / squealing / skipping / chattering noise?
Thanks for the reply. Could be the sound you're describing. I tried to record it tonight. If it can be heard on the recording, I'll try to post. Would it make sense that it only makes this irregular chirping/burbling sound in such a narrow RPM range? Is this common to certain versions of the PSDs, or just happens on some and not on others?
Very common, and yes, surge usually happens btw 1600-2000 rpms.

Hey there I was wondering if you had ever figured out wat the issue was I’m having just about the same thing going on with my 99 7.3
Also check up pipes connections for black soot/boost leaks. They usually have a ticking sound that changes with RPM/Load when the gaskets/pipe connections are compromised. Hope this helps
