I am looking at buying my first diesel, im looking at a dodge and this Ford. It has 140k miles on it, and i dont know how it has been driven in its life, so what do you all say about this many miles. I keep hearing that 200k-250k is about all the life you can expect from a PSD. What are your opinions about this truck. I also heard that they are pretty hard to work on.

I just bought my first diesel also. 03 F350, SWD, crewcab, 7.3l powerstroke. has about 114,000 on it and Im very happy so far. Soon as i got it home i went through the entire truck top to bottom with basic tune up stuffs.( oil change, filter, fuel filter, lube....etc and let my mechanic take care of it. I was also there when this was going on because i wanted to look at the underside of the vehicle while on the lift. Not ultra clean but not horrible either. One thing he said these engines are prone to is the Cam sensor going out and the valve gasket...not sure what it is acutally called but it is where the glow-plugs are attached to. Im guessing after time the connection get gunked and fails. Also he mentioned around the rear main seal will get wet with oil as if it is leaking. Not a huge problem but keep an eye on it. and my truck does this. Not to sure on other makes and models. but the 7.3 is the motor to stick with when dealing with Ford Diesels. maybe others can add more info for you. Good luck:thumbsup:
