Could be, does it squeal on long hard pulls? Mine did, look at the flat surfices on all the pullys where the belt rides. If they are burnt or has chunks of rubber on them you need to clean them good and replace the belt. While the belt is off you can check the tensioner and the other idler pullys for bearings. Look close at the right, back side of the tensioner behind the pully and there should be a 1/4" bar across the top. Mine rusted off and let the tensioner roll back and loosen the tension a little. I used the JK8 1223 AA belt instead of the 1227 because it's 1/2" shorter and no one could tell me not to. It's for the cold weather package and one could tell me for sure what the difference is.
