Buddy’s 6.0 will start and idles good. RPMs will go up to 1170 when throttle is pressed. Checked ICP and psi @ idle is 770 when cold, press throttle to floor and rpms go to 1170 and ICP drops to 550. Truck has been setting for 4 years due to lack of power. Has had injectors replaced in the past. New batteries just installed. Mileage is 183000

Need to get a code reader on it. Downloading ForScan Lite to a smartphone and buying the appropriate OBDII adapter (WiFi for iOS and BlueTooth for Android) for about #40 will get you a great scan tool and code reader. I like the BAFX brand of adapter because it is fairly cheap and works well.

Read the codes and post the code numbers!

Might need to do an air test on the high pressure oil system.

Lastly, here is a procedure that might help identify a weak or bad HPOP (which is common with 03 and 04 engines):

It didn’t have any codes
Does the 03 have dummy plugs and is it a problem like with the 04-07.

03-early 04 don't have dummy plugs. They do have a different design for standpipes, but they usually aren't an issue.

The HPOP, or the o-ring on the HPOP discharge J-tube, are the most common issues in the 03-early 04 engines. The late 04 engines have dummy plugs which then beat out the poor HPOP and the j-tube for the most common offender.

What are you using to check for codes. There are MANY poor code readers out there (Scangauge is one of the worst).

With those numbers, there are codes.

Time to be thinking of an HPOP issue or an issue in the high-pressure oil system.

Could it be the IPR not closing? Best way to verify it is closing.

It could be the IPR. The only way I know of to tell for sure is to pull the valve and put 12V power on it and watch it move. You can even rig up an air hose to it and then give it power t see if it closes and stops the air flow.

Then, if the IPR tests good, you can do an air test through the IPR port - but you need the special fitting to do so.
