First let me say hello to everyone I am new here just picked up my truck the other day for a great price with a few issues that need attention nothing major just small stuff. I searched the Forums for this question and unless its buried in a thread somewhere it is non-existent.

On the rear axle there are two ports between the driver's side rear wheel and the differential my questions are as follows: The thicker tube is the vacuum line correct? If this is disconnected there is a good chance that is where I lose vacuum pressure right? Well the line is about 6 inches too short if I put a male/male connector and an extra 8inches or so of hose to reach and have slack would the restriction of the connector effect the system negatively? Also could this be why when I put it in 4H the rear only spins one tire and the fronts don't lock automatically? Or is the rear separated from the front, and I have more than one problem?

Also where can I find a place to create a signature for this forum? So I don't have to write everything the truck has done to it every time because I have a feeling a few of you will want to know that info in order to answer these questions.

There are no vacuum lines on the rear axle. There is a vent tube on the drivers side - comes out of the top and is clipped up where water can't get into it. That's just there to allow air in and out of the axle with temperature changes.

Look on your door jamb for the vehicle sticker - check out the axle code - what is it? You would hope it would be a limited slip on a 4x4, but you never know.

Are your front hubs auto? If so and if they aren't locking, you probably need to do the ESOF maintenance. Any chance your a/c is only blowing through the defrost vents? Both issues would point towards a vacuum leak. Here's a link to follow:

Thank you for the reply RT...

The axle code is:
C1 — 3.73 limited slip, F-250/Excursion

I'm glad all that was there for was to make me nervous but sad that my problem couldn't be that easy haha.

The hubs are auto and I do have the ac problem but i can fight it by flicking the dials off and on high and low a few times and it comes back from defrost it only does it randomly not all the time so the leak might be a very small one. I am pretty much positive I should do the ESOF maintenance anyway because it can't hurt to do it too often and I have yet to do it myself. So I guess it all boils down to me getting up in there and trying to find the leak with a can of airflow sensor cleaner since thats all i have and it evaps quick. Thanks again for the reply I'll update after I track the problem down.
