Dont put a chip in it, until you've got head studs. 03's and 04's were prone to head gasket failure, and had a lot of other problems as well....Most would show their face after the addition of performance modules, or programmers. Unfortunately for you, your out of warranty, and head studs are $$$.

Is it recommended to change the studs in a 2006 if using a programmer?
It is recommended on every year 6.0....The head studs are definitely a weak point on these engines, however they improved slightly during the 05-07 models. Not saying you cant run a programmer without blowing your head gaskets....Its just taking a risk, and a pricey one at that.

i had the the edge juice platinum with attitude on my 03 for probably 50000 miles before i did the head studs and fire rings. I only did them because i put the turbo and injectors and custom tunes onto it. i ran the level 6 hot code on it all the time. when i removed the heads the wasnt any showing of the head gasket starting to go. BTW when i bought mine 3 years ago it had 150k miles on it. it is also different for each truck . i have the edge still for sale if you would like.

I have run the sct x3 for about the last 12,000 miles on my truck, most of the time on the exstreem street setting. Right after I installed it the truck started puking fluid if I got on the gas peddle very hard. I installed a new up pipe so no exhaust is getting into the egr cooler any more and havn't had any more problems. I do drive my truck nice though. The sct is really the way to go, but if you get one I would try not to hot rod the truck, or you may blow the head gasket. I am praying that my headgasket is just going to stay good forever. The truck really does run a lot better with the sct x3 though.

I have been running the Sct X3 tuner for about 15,000 and run the street tune daily but thats plenty of power! And have not had a tuner related problems with the truck. The Sct offers plenty of power as i have never even tryed the other power settings. I was lookin into the edge it offers a turbo timer, tuner and guages all in one. Thought that was pretty nice. But for a simple huge power gain go with SCT. And i would'nt take it off street tune with out studs.
