Hey, I have a 2004 f250 with the 6.0. I drove it yesterday, parked it, moved it somewhere else in the parking lot, then went back out about 5 minutes later and tried to start it. It makes a clicking sound/tries to barely start sometimes(doesn't really turn over but will just barely turn the fan belt). I thought the starter wasn't engaging so I removed it and bought a new one, still the same thing, so I went and got my old one tested and nothing was wrong it. So I put my old one back in, and took the passenger side battery out, tested that and found that the battery was no good, went and bought a different battery and fully charged it and its doing the same thing, except it tried to crank alittle better. When trying to start it just barely will turn the fan belt every few seconds. If anyone has any idea on what is wrong with it, I'd really appreciate it.

When one battery goes, the other one will be shot as well.
Always replace in pairs.

Low batteries can also take out your FICM.

Fuel Injection Control Module. It take 12v from the batteries, increases it to 48v and drives the fuel injector solenoids.

ahh alright. I did just take my second battery to advanced and they said its only good enough to turn on the lights and stuff but doesn't have enough power to crank the truck anymore, so hopefully with 2 new batteries and some luck I might get somewhere tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

If it still not starting after the second battery, take the belt off and see if it will crank. I locked up A/C compressor will cause a no start.

You should charge the first new battery so both are at full charge. The left side bad battery undoubtedly pulled a lot of the charge out of the new one you installed. The batteries are hooked up parallel and they will both go to the same charge level.

I put 2 new batteries in. I also slow charged them both fully. It turns over now but its very slow and it seems like its just draining the batteries quick. I may try taking the fan belt off, because the belt is starting to look strained like maybe the ac pump is holding it back since i've been having problems with that anyway. Guess I'll let you know how that goes tomorrow.

Ok so I can pretty much assure you that it's your A/C compressor locked up..I read this post because I had your excact same symptoms so I went out And cut the fan belt off and now the truck turns over like a machine gun rather than a hand crank sewing machine..The A/C compresser was completly locked up..So now the truck turns over but won't start..My truck ws running perfect uopn shutdown and just had a real slow/sluggish crank..so the triple a guy used a booster box/jumped from his truck and also jumped from a new battery all at the same time to get it too crank..He figured that the booster was close to dead and hios truck did'nt have enough juice to jump it based on the slow cranking... So my question now is

1. Can these 6.0 start with no fan belt on/is there a sensor for the belt that would cause a no start?
2. or what could I have fried with all those batteries/Basicly 5 at once/ when the tow truck was trying to get her started..I checked... No blown fuses!!

Any help would be very very much apreiciated due to the fact that this truck is my bread winner...Sorry for typos..covered in 15/40 from ass to elbows

hey yeah I had to replace both batteries as I must have friend them both, but It was my ac compressor, because I took the fan belt off after replacing the batteries and it started right up. Just waiting to get some money together to tackle fixing the ac compressor now.

But to answer your question yes it can start with no fan belt, or atleast mine does.

Yes, but you do not want to run it long as you have no coolant circulation with no belt operating the water pump.

Changed IPRand ICP. Put everything back together fired right up. Took for a 3 mile ride all good. Tried to start it up 20 min. laater no start. With key on engine off drained power down so that SCAN II would not work. Power blinks and all I hear is clicking noise for 5 sec. then nothing. Help! I have a 2004 F-250 6.0 L. Upgraded FICM with Atlas 40, 4" from Turbo back no cat. FlowThru Muffler

When you turn the key, the glow plugs immediately pull 11 amps each for a total of 88 amps before you start the engine... After you start the engine, the glow plugs continue to pull that amperage for up to 2 minutes, and your Alt doesn't start to charge the batteries until the glow plugs turn off... If the engine stalls while the glow plugs are on, the batts are drawn down and may not have enough to start the engine in a 2nd attempt... I had this issue with my 2003 6.0, and ended up installing 2 new batts (2 x now) and a 270 Amp Alt with dual Positive/Negative battery cables... Problem solved... The Alt now starts charging the batts as soon as the engine fires, and charges them at 14.7 volts keeping the batts at 13 volts monitored by a Scangauge II on the dash... A healthy set of batts should read 12.7 volts at rest... If yours are at 12.3, they are either not fully charging, aren't capable of holding 12.7 like they should, or you have loose connections somewhere like the Pos or Neg Batt terminals, or possibly one of your chassis grounds, or Alt connection...
