Hey guys, I have a truck driving me crazy. It sat for some time and when I got it it didn't run. I ended up putting a set of injectors in it because I knew 3 were bad. I replaced the hpop because it wasn't building pressure. I replaced the icp sensor and the pigtail because the sensor was blown out. It got a new ipr because something had gone through the screen and I didn't want to risk just rebuilding it only to have to got back and replace it. After I replaced all of this I got the truck running. It starts just like it should and idles fine. My problem us that when I put it in any gear it will not rev past 1000 no matter what. It will in park or neutral but not in any gear. I've looked at all the reading for the pedal and they are all in the desired range. I know its nothing to do with the turbo either because I swapped it with a know good one. I'm running out of things to look at. I'm thinking something electrical but I'm at a loss on where to go from here. I was told to check the maf sensor but that didn't change anything either. Any help would be SO APPRECIATED!

What scan tool do you have?

Those SHOULD pick up transmission codes.

As far as the accelerator pedal goes, that system is well instrumented and if there are no codes for it, then I would believe that it is not the issue.

What HPOP did you install? Even though it is new, there are MANY reported cases of bad ones right out of the box.

Have you watched the parameters for the high pressure oil with it in gear, braking, and increasing throttle to get to 1000 rpm (power braking)? ICP pressure, ICP sensor volts, and IPR % duty cycle?

If so, please post the numbers.

Also, is you '04 an early or late model (ie location of the ICP sensor?)?

Unfortunately this observed condition can be related to HPO system, fuel delivery system, VGT system, or even the EGR system. The EGR system is well instrumented as is the APP system - so if no codes, then probably no issue there either. Even base oil pressure can cause the issue you describe (aftermarket filter caps and broken filter standpipes being the most common things to cause low base oil pressure other than FOD on the LPOP gears).

I will try to post some numbers when I have time to work on it again. The EGR has been deleted, it's and early 2004 (10/03) and the icp is on the valve cover and not the pump cover. I thought about a bad hpop out of the box and even tried another new one. They were ford pumps. The stand pipe in the oil bowl is good and it has a factory cap on it. Even though it shouldn't matter I even checked the button in the bowl and it's working correctly and not broken either. Oh and it has a new motorcraft fuel pump on the rail too.

10/03 is a LATE '04. "04 production began in July of '03 and the date where it went to a late '04 is 9/29/03.

You know you have a late '04 when you have dummy plugs and the ICP is on the passenger valve cover.

So it's a problem with the sensor?

Broken Torque Converter.

Had one back in the day. Truck starts and runs, but doesn't want to accelerate well from a stop. When you hold the brake and rev the engine, it only comes up to 1100rpm. Revs just fine in P or N. Once you get the truck moving, it shifts fine. Turns out, a thrust washer in the converter had worn out and slipped outta place. It actually tooled the stator support and cut the end off. Without the stator remaining stationary, there was no slip in the converter and no stall speed. New converter, new pump and it works properly.
