2005 F350 6.0L with 40,000 miles, motor died while pulling out of Castic. Ford shop said the fittings on the oil pump blew loose, $1400 to replace. I just replace the turbo and ERG value.

Question: what caused the fittings to fail? What other surprises do I need to worry about?

I'm guessing they're talking about the STC (snap-to-connect) fitting. It connects the high pressure oil pump (HPOP) to the branch tubes. It's a known weak point. Do a search on here or Google for "STC Fitting" and you'll find all you want to know about it.

Thanks for the information. I think this repair is over my head so I will let the dealer do it. I wish Ford would have sent out a service bulletin or issued a recall. Thanks again, you guys are the best.

At 40K milkes I would ask them to fix it under warranty, its a known weak point for the Ford 6.0 PSD, and they have sent out several service bullentins on it. I would push them to fix it, print off what you find on here and other web sites and tell them you know it's a problem, if that doenst work call Ford yourself.

B....TSB 06-14-6 for 05/07 6L PSD describes sct problem. Not all failed, but apparently yours did. As mentioned, worth calling :ford: CR & ask for any $$$ assistance they can provide, considering only 40Kmi.

Ford said the truck was out of warranty and “they could not participate” in the repairs. However, they said keep your receipt and the $500 towing bill, and if, in the future there is a recall, they would be happy to reimburse me.
I told the rep that STC in the 05 was a known problem, Ford issued several TSB, and there are numerous post all over the web. So here is the kicker…The Ford Rep closes the conversation with “Sir, I have checked our records, and it appears there are no known reports of STC problems in our database and on our web site. Your information is generated from unauthorized web sites and until there are documented cases to justify an inquiry, Ford is unable to provide assistances.”

Hun?

I love my truck, I love Ford, but I wish Ford would show just a little compassion, honesty, integrity, and customer service.

$1400 sounds right, too bad that cost is 99% labour cause the upgrade kit only cost me $58.00
Took me a solid day to do it.
I hope yours didn't blow bad enough to crack the piece at the rear of the valley...

Ok, I now hate Ford. The STC failure took out a bank of injectors. The new cost of repair is $3200. + $ 500 for towing, on a truck with only 42K on it.
