I know this has been beat to death but here I go. I have a 2006 6.0 with 100,700 miles on it. I replaced the head gasket at 80,000 and also have a 4" mbrp exhaust with the cat delete. I am out of warranty and want to drive this truck until it has 300,000 miles on it. My ford tech agreed that a good step towards longevity would be the egr delete. I researched this and have ordered the sinister egr delete kit. I have also been reading that sometimes you may need to buy a sct tuner to allow the truck to function properly? I was wondering if this was a case by case scenario or if it was just to remove the cel. I do not want to turn my truck into a hot rod. I just want to do what i can to help her out. I have also heard of people leaving the egr valve plugged in to avoid the cel, does this work with 06 and up? I really appreciate any responses and advice that I receive. I have come to love this truck and really want to make it last.

ps I know I should have done the arp studs when I did the head gaskets but that ship has sailed.

Thank you all in advance for any advice you can share!

Plugged or unplugged you'll get a CEL. You'll need a programmer to take care of the code.

And leave the EGR plugged in. It doesn't have to be in the intake, just plugged in. Tie wrap it to something on the engine. It has been shown that the cooling fan will not work properly without the EGR valve being plugged in. Weird, but true.

Ok, so I will leave the egr vavle in to avoid the cooling fan problem. I guess I will eventually have to order the sct tuner too. Can the SCT tuners be beneificial to these trucks, longevity wise? The only guys that I know that own tuners use them to beat the crap out of their trucks.

Yes, you can get a tuner to help you. Best thing would be to avoid the canned tunes and have somebody write you a tune. They'll take into consideration your mods (or lack of) and recommend something safe for your truck. These guys are pretty popular in the diesel tuning world.

Ok it has been done! Egr delete installed and a nice mild tune tune from Eric at innovative diesel. The truck runs awesome now! Smoother shifting and better milage. I hope that when the inspection station plugs into my ODB II it will pass. From what i have read it seems like it will. Any thoughts?

PS thanks a ton for responding to my past question!
