I went back through the archives to about October and did not find this topic. Search was not helpful and I would like some current opinions?

I have the opportunity to buy one of several used trucks. My decision is basically between comparable F350 4x4 Dually Crew Cabs. My question is this: Now that you have lived with your 2008 for some time, which would you buy a 2006 or 2008? Why?

I will be using it for towing a 15,000 lb conventional hitch equipment trailer, plus some 5th wheel horse trailer towing.

To be honest, I am leaning towards the 2008 because it "feels" like a superior truck, but I am concerned about the emissions equipment, fuel economy and cost of maintenance. All of which are tough to measure not owning either. Obviously, my old truck does not get the job done well.

My husband and I have not owned a 6.0l but we have a 2001 7.3 and I just bought a 2008 6.4L. We have a raptor triple axle and both tow it awesome. both have mods. 2008 has sct off road program. It's not a dually. But we have entertained the idea of a dually and if we were to buy. It would be the 6.4l. I love my truck and I test drove alot.

I have had an early 1999 7.3 SC, DRW an early 2003 6.0 SC, DRW and an early 2008 6.4 CC DRW. I have pulled my 5Rs with all of them and each one got better as new trucks do. I liked each of them but my 6.4 is still the best and it has all the toys to make driving it that much more fun. I highly recommend the 6.4 and but the other two did the job and they all put a smile on my face every day.

I owned a 2003 F550 4:88 rear end 6.0 diesel. Now own a 2008 F450 6.4 4:30 rear end. The 2008 is the better truck. Look for a 2008 Job 3 truck with the 4:30 rear end.

I just cannot recommend getting a 6.0, because I had some major issues with mine. Then again, mine was an early 03. I loved the truck, and it was fantastic when it was running properly. I towed a lot of weight often with it, and worked it pretty hard. So maybe that had something to do with it breaking down a lot. There are lot's of 6.0 owners that haven't had any serious problems, so maybe it's luck?? On the other hand, I love the way my 6.4 starts right up every morning, runs smooth, gets ok fuel mileage, and has all sorts of fun "toys" to accommodate the driver.

I also had an early '03 6.0 DRW CC and now an '08 Job 2 DRW CC. The '08 in my opinion is the much better truck. Like dieselmankane said, it starts at the touch of the key every morning and is smooth as can be. In my case with my '03, I had the leaf sprung front end 4x4. On my '08 I got the wide track front axle for the DRW so I had a HUGE change in turning radius. I am very happy about that but the difference in ride was also huge. Of course they went to the coil front ends in the 05MY so I couldn't tell you the difference on an '05-'07 and an '08.

I occasionally tow forklift trucks on a tiltdeck equipment trailer and it's around 15k loaded. The factory hitch has been adequate for the job. The truck pulls real nice too.

I just drove the 2008 today. It also has the wide track and as you state the turning radius difference is HUGE.

I too will be towing a tilt deck (Econoline 7 ton deck-over) with a 10,500 lb John Deere on it. so hearing your experience is very valuable. The F250 just isn't enough truck, especially at its age and service. I would be interested in hearing about your hitch set up.

From my first drive, I am really impressed with the truck.
