This may sound obvious to some of you guys but I am no Diesel expert by far. Anyway it seems like my truck is using water?? It gets low and starts to overheat when pulling the 24' race trailer. Usually I just back off and it cools down. It is also spewing a bit from the rad. fill tank?? It also runs real rough for the first 1/2 to 1 mile then runs normally. The engine is stock with a exhaust and a tune. I always put it in tow when towing and do not drive the truck hard in the ex street tune. I have a idea I may have a leaky head gasket from reading this forum ? What do you guys recommend??

Sounds like head gaskets.

You say "a tune". What tune? The 6.0L TTY head bolts are notorious for stretching even under factory tune. HP tunes have reportedly shortened their lives even more.

You can buy a kit that tests for exhaust emissions in the degas tank, but it sounds like you're way beyond that.

I would bet your oil cooler is clogged, and that your EGR cooler isn't doing well either.

You need to know the differences between your engine oil temp and your engine coolant temp. If it's more than 15-25 or so, you need a new/rebuilt oil cooler.

Thanks for the info. It does the same thing regardless of what tune is in it. I only use the tune to get better fuel mileage. I always tow in the tow tune and even there I NEVER drive with my right foot on the floor. However with the TSB there is a chance my local dealer will help. Thanks for the info I will get it checked out and probably put some head studs in it. Thanks for the response!!!!:ford:

A tune in the PCM and a dealer will help don't go together. If you read the proper post on this forum you will find that a dealer should be able to tell you are tuned but they will help, for the proper amount of cash.

Could be head gaskets, egr cooler, or oil cooler clogged.

For me it was all three!!
