Yes, I think Ford has a real winner on it's hands. I am completely satisfied with our new truck. Luckily I was able to pay a pretty good amount south of sticker price via X-plan. I am seeing more and more '08's out on the road. One of the local utilities seems to have bought dozens of the new trucks. If you drive one of these trucks, you will have to get used to people slowing down as they pass you to take a look.

My only question is: How many are diesels?

If you take 43% of 228,000 F Series that gives you 98,000
Then, as Ford Claims, over 60% of SuperDuty's are Diesel...

That gives you 58,824. I wonder if that is accurate. Seems very high, as their previous model years (Including E Series) was only at an annual rate of around 425,000 diesels.

58,000 in one month gives an annual rate of around 700,000 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Thass a whole 'lotta diesels goin on. Maybe Navistar would like to consider coming to a truce with these numbers...or maybe its just a mad dash to get them for now, until the "gotta have one now" folk get theirs...who knows.

I think the diesel Super Duty percentage is actaully closer to 70 or 73 percent.

And...228,000 F-Series a month is 2,736,000 a year. That can't be right either. It must be 228,000 for the 1st quarter. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

228k is for all F-series, the F-150 is not a Super Duty so:

43% * 288,343 = 98,187 Super Duties in April

When I picked up my 08 in May,I took a walk around the lot while waiting to see the sales manager. There were about 25 SD and not one was a gas model.

Ford's 2008 order guide to dealers was requiring them to order a mix of 92% diesel 5% v8 gas and 3% v10 gas in the superdutys.

I don't know if they actualy force the dealers to stick with that.

I could not find a v10 within 300 miles when I was looking.

It looks like the 6.4 is going to be a reliable engine, Ford and Navistar opted to remove the complicated failure prone items for a simpler approach. (no more high pressure engine oil operated injectors, no more variable vane turbo, etc) it looks like simpler is better. usually it is. Almost makes me wish I bought a diesel (no not really)

I agree it's going to be a reliable engine, but I'd be very careful about saying they took a "simpler" approach! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif They removed some complicated parts, and then added some complication. By they I guess we really mean International. Mostly due to emissions regulations.

But I think that is still a little high, as that 98,000 is what I originally calculated from, that would still give over a MILLION SuperDuty units per year.

Somethings off. This has to be quarterly sales. I think Id be seeing these things EVERYwhere if they sold that many SD's.

Also, I dont think they have capacity for that many trucks. I would like someone to chime in on actual diesel capacity, if anyone knows it.

The variable vane turbo is still being used on the 6.4L. It is now controlled by an external module box that they call a turbo actuator that has an external control rod connected between the module box and the high pressure turbo.

I hope this new Super Duty puts Ford back on track to owning the heavy-duty truck market again.
