Anyone find any black aftermarket headlights yet? Thanks.

I saw a truck where the owner painted the chrome in his headlights, He claimed that he removed the headlights out of the truck and put them in an oven to, if I remember correctly, about 250 degrees and then he pulled the lens off. The heat loosens the glue that holds the lens on the headlight base. He then painted the chrome part my roughing up the chrome and then applied some sort of primer type coating, I can't recall the term he used, it was not primer. He then painted it. Stuck it back in the oven to remelt the glue and reapplied the lens It looked great. See it at: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TNENp72X3aA/Ta0CoH2ydoI/AAAAAAAAAGI/dhvqDsqgDIg/s1600/PitBoss_Front.jpg

I sent an email off to Recon asking if they were working on any plans to sell one...

"Yes they are in the works. Working on final DOT approval stages and production should be starting. I would say late summer or early fall they should be in stock and ready to go. We will have them available in either the clear chrome or the black chrome."

So... we'll see... hopefully toward the end of summer...

How difficult is it to install the HID version of these replacements anyways...?

Recon makes decent stuff, but the output will be nowhere near what I got done. I do a lot of driving at night, and I am extremely impressed with the system I got.

rocman: is your HID system bi-xenon? Also what was teh total cost for teh project and how is the aiming and focus of teh HID pattern?
thanks!
Yes, it is Bi-Xenon. I had to buy the replacement OEM headlights for about $120 or so each on Ebay. The HID system was around $425, which include really good OEM equipment. Black Flame charged me around $500 for the paint and install. They have great aim and you can still adjust the vertical to meet your needs. The focus is precise and the HID kit I have has a very distinct cutoff line. I am very happy with them.

If you don't want to go through all the trouble of sourcing everything out, black flame also offers a complete "ready to go" kit.
