You need to identify the type of braking system, you have; Air or Hydraulic.

The ABS module is not accessible through the 16-in DLC connector. If it has hydraulic brakes, it will have a Meritor Wabco braking system which requires a vehicle communication module with a 9-pin adapter and either MD Truck software or software available from Meritor. Air brakes on these trucks can give you a blink code on the dash by activating a switch located under the dash. It is not as simple as just clicking it as there are multiple tests that can be initiated with multiple clicks of the switch...

Activating Blink Code Mode

For the ABS module to recognize that the blink code switch has been pressed, it must be pressed for at least 0.1 second, but less than 5 seconds. Pauses between presses of the switch must not be longer than 2 seconds. Once the diagnostic mode is entered, there is a pause of 3.5 seconds, then the ECU begins blinking the ABS warning lamp.

To set the ABS module into blink code mode, follow these steps:

Turn the ignition to the ON position and wait at least 2 seconds.
Press the blink code switch a number of times equal to the diagnostic mode desired.

ABS Module Diagnostic Modes

Number of Blink Code Switch Presses System Mode Entered
1 Active DTC Mode
2 Inactive DTC Mode
3 Clear Active DTCs
4 System Configuration Check
5 Dynamometer Test Mode
7 Reconfigure Electronic Control Unit (ECU)

ABS ISSUE

I FOUND THE PROBLEM IT WAS THE FUSE I ENDED UP CALLING BENDIX AND FOUND THAT WHEN YOU FIRST TURN THE KEY KOEO KEY ON ENG OFF THE ABS GOES INTO A SELF TEST YOU WILL HEAR A CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM EACH TIRE. WELL WHEN I TURNED THE KEY ON NO SOUND SO THEN I VERIFIED THAT THE FUSE WAS PRESENT AND IT WAS NOT SO I THEN APPLIED THE FUSE AND CONCERN WAS NO LONGER PRESENT THIS WAS A LEARNING EXPERIANCE:nerd:

I am having the same issue can you please continuebwith how to diagnose it this way. It's a 2011 F-750 cummin, with air brakes. ABS light stay lit. We have noticed it seems to drag on the rear passenger side, has started smoking once or twice so we stop im
mediately and wait, then it's ok for a while. This is a bucket truck and my livelihood I can't afford to have it go down. But don't want to push it so far that it causes a major breakdown... thanks

Before going into any electronic diagnosis, dragging brakes are usually caused by mechanical faults and in your case the ABS light could also be the result of a mechanical fault that is causing a wheel speed sensor fault. My advice is to inspect the air brake chamber and the slack adjuster - have someone apply the brakes and see if there is movement and everything seems to operate freely and returns after releasing the brakes. Second, if you have a bad wheel bearing that would cause brake drag, heat and smoke and also affect the wheel speed sensor air gap which is critical for proper operation. Since the individual and assembled parts are heavy some disassembly will be required to look for a loose wheel bearing (worn or damaged).
