Pretty new to the diesel world. Just bought a 2012 f350 recently and would like to get a good baseline to start on maintenance as I would guess all that was ever done was filters/oil. My questions are what all would you guys suggest changing and are all items I should be able to do myself? I am no diesel mechanic but mechanically inclined enough to to most things that wont require special tools. I appreciate any advise/help! Also am getting a warning to check coiling additive...should i be concerned?

Knowing the mileage and hours on it would help knowing what might be due. If it were mine and in the absence of maintenance history, I would:

1. Change all of the fluids (unless you have a record of when they were changed last) including engine oil, transmission, both axles (if 4x4), transfer case (if 4x4), power steering, and brake fluid.
2. The coolant additive should be tested, the dealer will usually do this for free.
3. All of the filters should be changed (unless you have a record of when they were changed last) including fuel and air (and the pre-filter).

Forgot to put mileage, currently sitting at around 125k
Do you have any of the maintenance history? If not, if it were mine, I would do the things listed above and in addition, the coolant probably needs to be flushed and changed.

Looks like oil changed regularly fuel filters every other change or so. coolant flushed at 85k power steering at 79k and transmission at 79k. Was able to find maintenance history up to about 100k miles.

Have the coolant checked and I would change the rear axle fluid (assuming this is not a 4x4--else change the front axle and transfer case fluid). I highly recommend Amsoil Severe Gear for the axles (if you have two) with 75W-110 in the front and 75W-140 in the rear.
